Importance of Secondary Containment

Secondary containment is an important thing to have on any oil field. Not only is it required by regulatory agencies in many instances, it’s what prevents the hazardous liquids you work with from polluting the surrounding area after a spill. It provides a reinforced storage system by providing a double enclosure that is responsible for holding important but dangerous materials that are corrosive, combustible, flammable, or toxic.

Our liners and containment systems are built to be used for a large range of secondary containment applications. These liners are meant to minimize the chance of liquid leaks so they are made from a high-strength material which can be used for containment systems and covers. To ensure safety for the best amount of protection and containment, you should look into a flame-resistant liner.

One product that has become popular to use as a secondary containment resource is containment berms. One type of berm that is being used often is the aluminum angle berm. It’s made of liner that has a high-resistance material, which is able to handle many types of fluids including oil, fuel, and chemically treated water. The berms have a variety of sizes. A small one can be placed under tanks that have very specific leaks to collect the fluid. Larger ones are placed under storage tanks to help serve as secondary containment. In terms of containment installation, the aluminum angles of this type of berm are easy to install and transport.

Containment for Oil & Gas Operations

There are requirements that must be met for containment material to be used in the mining, gas, and oil industries. The use of secondary containment ensures that you’re protecting the environment while ensuring your product is preserved during both the transportation and the storage. We install mining containment systems, above ground containment, oil field containment, fire retention ponds, drilling site pit and pad liners, and liners for oil and gas frac pits.

Another type of containment that is important is spill containment that is portable. Much like other forms of containment, it is used to catch a variety of different hazardous liquids and chemicals. In many cases, it is used in the spraying of pesticides, but it can be used to capture contaminated water in many different applications.

Those who store their petroleum products in the United States have to meet the requirements set up by the Environment Protection Agency. The EPA states that these facilities have to have a plan prepared and in place in case there is a spill.
